The Great "Frod" Adventure

Lee has two high school buddies that he has maintained a relationship with over the past 50 years. Our first "married" friends were these two guys and their wives, Frank & Maureen Leifson and Rod & Ann Dart. While we lived in Utah, we occasionally went out to dinner together, and always got our families together for a picnic on Memorial Day. Over the last several years we have often arranged to meet for dinner whenever we were visiting in Utah. Lee has been coaxing them to come up and join us for a weekend in Montana, and they finally planned a trip. It was Tara who came up with the idea to call our weekend The Great "Frod" Adventure!

We were excited to pick them up at the airport and bring them home to introduce them to Sigh-Bar. After checking out our little piece of heaven on earth and a late lunch, we decided to ride into Whitefish for some local homemade ice cream at Sweet Peaks. We loved sitting around the fire, roasting marshmallows, and getting caught up on the latest happenings in each other's families.

Saturday morning we headed for Glacier National Park. It was sunny and a beautiful day to enjoy nature's best. The road through the park was only cleared as far as the Avalanche Lake trail, which we thoroughly enjoyed strolling through the huge trees of the forest. Afterwards we stopped in Whitefish at one of our favorite local hotspots, The Fart & Slobber Inn, for lunch, then walked through the shops on Main Street before taking another scenic drive up to the ski resort at Big Mountain. Then we were glad to get home, sit on the deck with our feet up, and reminisce. Lee had one of his yearbooks and the guys entertained themselves going through it to see how much they knew about what had happened to their classmates. To top off a great day together we got out the snacks and watched the movie "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel."

Sunday morning we attended Sacrament Meeting in the Whitefish Ward, then drove down to Lakeside on Flathead Lake for lunch. On our way home we stopped in again at Sweet Peaks to try yet another flavor of homemade ice cream. The chatting time on the deck, followed by snacks and a movie, was such a hit the day before that we indulged ourselves with the same treat again!
We lingered over breakfast Monday morning and took our time getting things packed up before driving into Kalispell. Lee had fun taking us to his favorite antique shop, where Rod actually made an amazing discovery of a 1911 first edition book by Zane Grey. We enjoyed lunch at the Wheat Montana Deli, and couldn't resist one more trip to Sweet Peaks!
Back to the Glacier Airport for good-byes and a new resolve to plan a trip together every year! How blessed we are to have such special friends to share life's experiences with. Until next year...
