Blue Bell Fun Run

One of Amy's New Year's resolutions this year is to run a 10K race. Alex & Nick and I had run the Blue Bell Fun Run in Brenham a couple of years ago, so Amy decided to encourage us to help her meet her goal and run it again with her. Although a "fun run" seems like a cruel play on words, the race in Brenham is actually a fun experience, in a beautiful location, and ends with all of the Blue Bell ice cream you can eat! Another plus is that the proceeds from the race go to fund the athletic program of Brenham High School, which we are happy to support.

The course starts and ends at the high school, winding through the rolling hills of the countryside around the city of Brenham, which is home to the Blue Bell ice cream factory. It is definitely a challenging course for me because of the hills. (The occasional "dip" in my running routes in Coles Crossing don't really provide conditioning for running hills!) The race ends with one last big hill, but then you drop down to the finish line where the Blue Bell ice cream truck full of every kind of ice cream treat awaits!

So, we all signed up: Isabelle ran the 1-mile Kids Run and clocked her fastest time yet - 10.5 minutes! (she was thrilled to get a medal, which looks like a bronzed tub of Blue Bell ice cream); Nick ran the 5K pushing Leo in the stroller; and Amy, Alex, and I ran the 10K. Ben, Livi, and Lee cheered us on and were the photographers. Lee tried several times to get a picture of Isabelle running, but she went by so fast that all of the pictures were of the kids behind her!
It was a beautiful morning to be together with family, run a good run, enjoy some yummy Blue Bell ice cream, and help Amy check off one of her New Year's resolutions!

Looks fun but I think I would skip the run and go straight to the ice cream!
