Restaurants were still all closed, so there was no celebrating with dinner out for Mother's Day, but Isabelle and Olivia planned a very awesome and creative poolside Mother's Day Hawaiian Luau, complete with decorations, yummy food, a photo booth, music, swimming, and lots of fun! Each of us made our own individual flatbread pizza to share while sipping on fabulous pina coladas!
The pandemic also dictated some creative birthday celebrating this year as well. The Woodlands Mall opened up just in time for the girls to plan a birthday shopping trip, although when we got there we found that few stores were actually open. It didn't stop us from having a great time window shopping and sharing some fun snacks. We picked up Torchy's Tacos on the way home for a yummy birthday dinner. Olivia organized a family zoom call so that the entire family could "be together" while I opened everyone's gifts. What a fabulous blessing to be able to be together virtually using modern technology! The girls surprised me with my very favorite dessert, a warm pizookie, complete with a birthday candle and song. I love to celebrate birthdays, my own and everyone else's too!! It was a very lovely day with so much fun and family that I almost didn't mind being 67 years old!!
Memorial Day seemed to be the benchmark for the country to slowly start reopening things and allowing people more freedom to move about, although still with lots of restrictions, everyone wearing a mask, social distancing 6 feet from each other, etc. Tara's office in Miami reopened which meant it was time for her to go back. It was so awesome to have her here with us and be able to work from home here. It will be interesting to see what happens this summer as the country tries to rebound from the great COVID-19 pandemic!
