Fabulous at 40 in NYC

Tara had plans to make a memorable launch into the next decade with a celebration in Paris, and since no one was able to make the trip with her, Amy and I decided to party with her in NYC the weekend before her birthday instead. It was a beautiful, fall weekend in the city, and we helped her put her 30's in the family history book in style!

We were able to arrive at JFK within minutes of each other to face our first adventure (the wild one-hour taxi drive) together! We checked into the Sheraton in Times Square, dropped our bags, and were on our way. We had lunch at one of Tara's favorite little Mexican spots, The Iguana, then strolled through the shops before having some fun in the huge FAO Schwarz store. We took mini cupcakes from The Magnolia Bakery to enjoy the lovely fall evening in Rockefeller Center.

We started the day Saturday with a jog in Central Park, then shared a "cronut" (a cross between a croissant and a donut) on our way to purchase last-minute tickets to whatever Broadway show we could get in to. We hit the jackpot with tickets to the matinee performance of Newsies, so hurried back to the hotel to change our clothes. The show was amazing! Afterwards we walked down to the "largest store in the world," Macy's Midtown Manhattan. We shopped all the way back to Times Square, for more Mexican food at Chuy's. Our final stop for the evening was at Ellen's Diner for entertainment with birthday dessert.

Sunday morning we loved a beautiful walk through Central Park before walking up Fifth Avenue. We happened upon a huge Polish American parade, which we would see continuing 3 hours later! Once again we took our lives in our hands and took a wild and crazy taxi ride to JFK where we had to say good-bye to Tara in her 30's, and board separate flights to Houston and Miami.

I feel incredibly blessed to celebrate 40 years of being the mother to an amazing daughter. Tara is so sensitive, kind, caring, generous, smart, creative, talented, devoted, ambitious, and has taught me so much. She blesses my life every day. Sharing a NYC weekend together with her and Amy was priceless!
