'Til We Meet Again

We were just climbing into bed on the night of Ben's birthday when I got a call from my brother telling me that Dad had passed away. Although it was unexpected, I was not completely surprised. Dad had lost his appetite and not been eating well for awhile, which eventually took its toll. He was never sick nor unhappy, but just kindof slowed down and finally went to sleep. The Cosbys had just visited with him a few days earlier on their drive to Montana and were shocked, as he had seemed himself when they saw him. We immediately started making plans to get to Salem. We were grateful that Chris was able to make a quick trip for the funeral, and Tara was able to be there for the viewing.

The funeral was held at the Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork. All five of us kids paid a tribute to Dad, and Jenny Webb played a beautiful and touching violin solo. Dad had asked Jenny many times to play at his funeral, and had requested "I've Been Working on the Railroad" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." He was buried next to Mom and Suzy in Salem on a beautiful summer day.
Dad lived a full life, and always on his own terms. He was interested in people and always friendly to everyone. He always cheered for the underdog and was loved by many friends and neighbors, old and young alike. He loved his family to a fault, and was never shy about telling everyone/anyone that he had the greatest "posterity." I am so grateful for my parents, for all of their love and support, for all they sacrificed to build and nurture our family through four generations, for the life lessons taught through their example, for their unwavering devotion to eternal principles, and for the lifetime of memories that uplift and encourage me every day. 'Til we meet again...
