The last couple of months, since making the Sigh-Bar our second home, we have been piling up items to help furnish the new homestead. So we decided to load up the truck, check out the winter scene in Whitefish, and celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary in a climate similar to the day our life together began.......we were married in the midst of a record-breaking snowstorm on December 17, 1970!
Lee built a rack for the back of his pickup truck to accommodate the heavier items, and we filled every inch, inside and out, and even on top! After two long days of driving we arrived in Utah, where we could take a break for a day to visit with our families and wish them "Merry Christmas" in person. We even got to join in the fun of a Christmas party with Bret & Teresa and their family.
One more 700-mile day and we completed the 2000-mile trip to Sigh-Bar. Lots of snow and freezing temperatures made us grateful to pull the loaded truck into the garage and be "home." We have had such a great time unloading the truck and finding a new spot for everything that made the roadtrip with us. It took a little ingenuity and courage but Lee was able to hang the Sigh-Bar sign he had made in our garage in Houston and strapped onto the truck with only me to hold the ladder!

On our anniversary we spent the day exploring the jewelry shops in Whitefish and Kalispell. The 40th anniversary is the "ruby" anniversary, but after learning the history of the Montana Yogo Sapphires, I was smitten and we were so excited to find the perfect matching wedding bands with Yogo sapphires and diamonds. (The 45th anniversary is the "sapphire" anniversary, so we're just a little ahead for once!) We ended our celebration with an especially lovely dinner beside the fireplace at the Grouse Mountain Lodge.

Lee thinks we have spent the past two weeks in paradise! He has worked tirelessly on projects he has created, explored all the features of the new house, shoveled snow, shot the gun, scanned the landscape for wildlife (with new binoculars that Mom & Dad gave to us as a housewarming gift), driven up Big Mountain, learned the layout of Whitefish, and enjoyed an occasional nap in front of the fireplace. Although the temperatures are cold, the scenery is fabulous and we have loved enjoying the beauty of winter here.

Christmas morning we will board a plane for the flight back to Houston after one extraordinary anniversary celebration!
